Obituary
Luis Maurice Reese Rodriguez
April 10, 1958 - September 22, 2022
Reese was born in Bogota, Colombia, South America on April 10, 1958 to German Rodriguez and Ofelia Sarmiento Rodriguez. He was the second of three sons, between his older brother Herman and his younger brother, Kenneth.
While he was very young, the family emigrated along with many of their relatives and settled in New Jersey. He traveled back and forth as a child and was able to enjoy growing up on his grandfathers farm in Colombia (where many of his entertaining stories originate) while also enjoying the suburban life in the U.S. before permanently returning to the states.
Reese graduated from Bergenfield High School in 1977. In 1983 he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and set his sights on the ministry. During that time he also got reacquainted with Sandra Bazurto, who was the daughter of his parents friends who had also immigrated to the US from Colombia around the same time as they had. The two were married in 1985 and went on to have four children together and moved to Colorado.
Reese was a dreamer with an entrepreneurial spirit who was never content to settle for a "standard" life. This resulted in his professions spanning construction to trucking to hotel management, and everything in between. His zeal for change and adventure also led to many relocations during his life, some more judicious than others, with stops in several states including North Carolina, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, and Colorado.
Reese was very athletic and enjoyed a variety of sports, fishing, boating, and especially riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles with his friends from the Colorado Springs VFW Warriors as well as with his sons.
He and his family spent the last 7 years in beautiful Longmont, Colorado.
Reese was surrounded by his wife and children as he graduated peacefully from this realm to his heavenly forever home with Jesus. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sandra; his son Matthew, daughter-in-law Blayne and his grand-daughter Ava Hudson Rodriguez; his sons Michael and Stephen, and his daughter Cassandra; his mother, Ofelia; his brothers Herman and Kenny. Reese was an adventurous and larger-than-life personality that will be sorely missed. He was 64.
A Celebration of Life in his honor will be held at 4pm on Friday, October 21 at Redemption Church Denver, 4345 W 46th Ave, Denver, CO 80212
